In 1996-97 David Webb guided Brentford to the play-off final at Wembley, but the side were beaten by Crewe Alexandra. The club were then relegated to the Third Division (by then the bottom division of the Football League) the following year. Brentford won promotion as champions again in 1998-99 under manager and chairman Ron Noades and remained in the division ever since.

Webb s[ent four years in charge of the Bees between 1993 and 1997 and his record was fairly impressive, winning much more games than losing, many argue that he is one of Brentfords finest managers over the years.
